iFE Expert Sign-up FAQ

Q.
How much does it cost to join iFindExpert?
A.

The simple answer is; there is NO COST to join the iFind team of experts. iFindExpert pays the experts their FULL FEE. Once we bring a case to you and you are designated as the expert, iFE will handle all the billing, collection, document transfer and storage, and manage deadlines on the cases you accept and will only deduct one hour.

Q.
How is iFindExpert (iFind, or iFE) different from other referral companies?
A.

We are more than just a "pay to search" database. We provide a high tech, multifaceted, personal support service to our experts and the legal team that acquires you for their case. One of the most startling differences is that iFE handles all the billing, collection, document transfer and storage, and manages deadlines on the cases you accept, all at NO COST to our experts. We handle all of the advertising, promotional activities, document management, case management, and logistics management for iFE experts. The only thing we require of our experts is that they review the accuracy of their CV (Resume), and they regularly update their profile as it changes. One of our main goals is to enhance communication between the expert and the attorneys' staff. Experts who manage their cases through iFindExpert enjoy additional complimentary services not offered by other expert listing services or database forums. iFE handles all of your billing, collection, document transfer and storage needs, plus helps you manage deadlines, and provides several other beneficial support services for you on the cases you accept. iFindExpert works with you to manage and track your hours and expenses. We streamline the expert's rate sheet, and provide the attorney with an easily understood, single statement for the experts work. We help our experts track and monitor deadlines and make sure that they provide reports and opinions when they are due, and iFE helps coordinate travel so that our experts are present for depositions, trials, site evaluations, and other appointments. iFE handles all of the collection activities and provides an annual Form 1099 to help with your taxes. Our ultimate goal is to help make your life easier, your cases more manageable, and to help you be the best expert you are capable of being.

Q.
Are there any fees I have to pay to iFindExpert when I work as an Expert?
A.

There is NO FEE to join iFindExpert. The only time there is a fee is when we bring a case to you and you are designated as the expert. One hour will be deducted. That's it! This helps with the advertising and promotional activities we engage in to get our experts promoted and in front of the attorneys. This also helps fund the ongoing services of billing, collection, document transfer and storage, and deadline management. We handle all your billing, collection, document transfer and storage, help manage deadlines, and provide several other beneficial support services. We encourage you to enter your complete profile on iFindExpert.

Q.
What is an expert witness and who can be an expert?
A.

An expert is any person who, based upon their knowledge, skill, experience, training, or education, can provide an opinion about or interpretation of evidence or certain facts. Usually, an expert is hired, or retained, by an attorney to assist in understanding issues or facts in a case. Often, though not always, the expert is hired with the expectation that the expert will testify at trial to help explain the issues or facts to the judge or jury. In some instances, an expert will be retained solely as a consultant to help the attorney to prepare the case or to better understand the case. Experts may also be retained by the Court, or by neutral parties in alternative dispute resolution proceedings (mediation, arbitration, etc.), to assist them in understanding the issues or facts of the case.

Q.
What qualifications do I need to become an expert?
A.

Qualifications vary widely from one field to another. Generally, if there is a specific educational, or experience based pathway to become licensed in your field, you should have the appropriate educational degrees, or experience background, appropriate for your field. If there are associations, regulatory groups, or other licensing agencies for your field, you should maintain an active license, or be a member in good standing with the proper groups. Although license and educational background are significant items in establishing yourself as an expert, your experience in the field is also very important. If you have significant recognizable experience, this may be more effective in establishing yourself as an expert than other factors. Regardless of the credentials you use to establish yourself as an expert, it is important that you be honest in your profile. It is better to be found an honest person than to have a fabulous background which cannot be supported or verified. If you compromise your integrity, it damages your credibility and can make it impossible for you to function as an expert on legal cases. If you have any question as to whether you qualify as an expert, please feel free to contact iFindExpert and we will be happy to help you determine if your qualifications are appropriate to establish you as an expert.

Q.
How long does it take before I can start accepting cases?
A.

Once you enter your full profile and upload your CV and Rate Sheet (or complete a CV in your profile), you are ready to start accepting cases from iFindExpert. As soon as cases requiring experts with your qualifications are available, we will contact you to see if you are available for the case. It is up to the attorney to determine the type of expert appropriate for the specific case, so iFindExpert does not have any control over the expert requests or when the experts are needed. However, because we are constantly getting requests for experts, there is a good chance that you will be contacted in the near future. In order to maximize your chances for being asked to participate on a case, you need to be sure that you enter all of the profile data. Once this is done, you are ready to act as an expert on the next case that requires your expertise!

Q.
If I sign up, how do I know I will get a case and be able to work as an expert?
A.

The reality is that no one can provide any specific promise as to when or how much demand there will be for your services as an expert. It is up to the attorney to determine the type of expert appropriate for the specific case, so iFindExpert does not have any control over the expert requests or when the experts are needed. However, because we are constantly getting requests for experts, there is a good chance that you will be contacted in the near future. In order to maximize your chances for being asked to participate on a case, you need to be sure that you enter all of the profile data and complete the CV (Resume) Verification. Once this is done, you are ready to act as an expert on the next case that requires your expertise!

Q.
I already work as an expert. If I sign up with iFindExpert can I still accept other cases?
A.

As an expert, you are in control of the cases you accept, and the volume of work you do as an expert. If you are offered the opportunity to work on a case through an avenue other than iFindExpert, you can accept the case directly, or you may request that the case be managed by iFindExpert. If you request that iFindExpert manage your portion of the case, we will be happy to do this in the same manner as any other case you have with iFind. We can coordinate the case with your attorney and make all of those arrangements for you. If you elect to take a case outside the iFindExpert program, you are free to do so.

Q.
How much should I charge for my services?
A.

Appropriate and reasonable fees are dependent upon your particular field of expertise, your level of experience, your education, your particular training, as well as your geographic location. iFindExpert is familiar with expert fees across the nation and can provide you with reliable information upon which you can base your rate. This is another meaningful service iFindExpert offers our experts at no fee or cost to our experts.

Q.
How do I track and submit my hours for billing?
A.

iFindExpert provides our experts with a proprietary form so they can easily and conveniently track their hours, what they accomplished or worked on, and when the work was performed. Experts need to provide an accurate hourly statement specifying the date, an in-depth description of the work performed and the time spent during each work session. iFindExpert requests that the experts complete this form and send it to iFind by the 10th and 25th of the month so the hours can be processed and billed to the attorneys on the 1st and 15th of the month. The form also allows you to track your fees and compensation.

Q.
How do I get Paid?
A.

iFindExpert will send a statement to the attorney on the 1st and the 15th of every month for the hours of work you have done. The attorney's office will be billed for your full hourly rate and time, plus a percentage based hourly fee for the services iFindExpert provides. You will be paid your full fee 7 days after iFindExpert has received payment from the attorney. In conjunction with our next major program upgrade, around April of 2013, several additional benefits will be available to our experts. One of the most exciting benefits for our experts is the opportunity to receive payment of their fee within 7 days after sending in their billing statement. The expert will be charged a percentage fee for this service, but will not be faced with any delay in payment, or risk of the attorney attempting to reduce their expert fee.

Q.
I'm interested in rendering opinions, but I'm concerned about the effects of testifying on my regular schedule. How often should I expect to be testifying in court?
A.

The fact is, most cases are settled without going to trial or ever entering into court. If the case progresses to the point of trial, you will be made aware of upcoming dates and deadlines well in advance. The trials are scheduled with the courts several weeks in advance, so if you need to be available to testify, you normally have plenty of time to arrange your schedule so that it does not interfere with work, family, or other important commitments. The same is true for depositions, although unlike court dates, there is often a substantial amount of leeway in the scheduling of depositions. If you are scheduled to be deposed, you will often be able to coordinate the time for the deposition with your existing schedule. It is impossible to forecast which cases will go to trial, so you should be prepared to testify in every case you accept.

Q.
What if I am not satisfied with iFindExpert's service?
A.

We provide a professional relationship to all our experts and ensure our products will be professionally and courteously delivered. We work hard to meet your needs and provide services that are beneficial and meaningful.
